Reflection

Today we preformed our stage combat routine and I think we did pretty well. We could have improved because we had our back to the audience at the wrong time and place. I believe we could have improved if we practiced a bit more because we only practiced in break. Overall I am happy with what I accused and I did my best and that Is the mark I deserve.

Person A:                                 Rico Bucconi; is an Italian that moved to Ottawa at birth. He has brown hair and is tall and tan. He is muscular.

Person B:                                 Tim Hortons; A Canadian male, very apologetic. Can dodge very well but gets tired quickly.

Scene Background:                 Rico is at doctor’s appointment and Tim is nurse calling him up for his checkup and Tim pronounces his name wrong so he gets angry and they start fighting.

How do you think it will go?   I think that we will do pretty well but one thing I’m concerned about is the knaps because I don’t know how it will go.

Reflection for Stage Combat

This week we started stage combat and im already in love with it. Stage combat is when you make a realistic looking fight but no contact is used. So far we learned:

  • How to Knap
  • How to slap
  • How to Punch
yesterday, Karim and I made a skit. Where i was an owner of a company degrading Karim and firing him and thenn he gets angry and slaps me. It was very fun to reherse. But we needed to learn about Saftey. Saftey First, Saftey Last, Saftey Always. So we had to be about a meter and a half away from each other. A Knap is when you make the sound with your hands to sound like a slap.
What Went Well:
We made it look realistic and we knew our lines. We also rehersed the slap and we didnt go over the top witht the insults.
Even Better If:
My reaction was a bit over the top and i think that is because im used to Melodrama at this point. Also When Karim was lifting his hand, He moved it down a bit too slow and without tention.

I will keep working on my sstage combat so i can improve.

Reflection

1. I feel I have developed how to act Melodramatically and how to properly show my facial expressions.
2. My greatest success is when we did a Train Track Terror and I feel that my acting was pretty good.
3. Silent: Everybody took turns filming and we all acted although some people did more work than others. For Pocahontas, everyone worked really well and we all had big parts in it and everyone did their best.
4. If there is a movie about an issue in the world, it will bring insight to people so that they know the dangers of that.
5. We got the reaction we wanted, people laughed when we wanted them too but when we didn't want them to laugh they didn't.
6. When we do presentations I can use my acting skills for improvement

Pochohontas: A Melodramatic Remake

What character are you playing?

Pocahontas is Salma, John Smith is Riccardo, Sam is the Henchmen and Sireen is the Chief.

What Melodrama conventions will YOU be using in your performance and how will you use them?

1. Pocahontas falls in love with John Smith at the beginning to give a reason for why she rescued the damsel.

2. The Damsel (Riccardo) will be captured by the Henchmen (Sam) right after they fall in love so that Pocahontas (Salma) will have a reason to go after the villain (Sireen).

3. Pocahontas will rescue John Smith towards the end and they will live happily ever after.

What costumes will you wear? Why?

Pocahontas will wear a leather dress, blue necklace and a tattoo drawn with a marker. John Smith will wear a white long sleeved blouse, denim jeans and boots. The chief will wear a black leather vest with tassels and an orange shirt. The henchmen will wear tribal clothing.

What props will we use?

Greenscreen for backgrounds. Spears for fighting. Bows and arrows

Peer Assessment on Silent Movie

Save the Princess, Save the Day:

I think that our group did pretty well, I think we did Substantial work but we could have improved if we put more cue cards and if we did a better job at making big actions. Gunce could have acted more and done bigger expressions and Adam could have looked more like a villain. I could have done bigger expressions and Omar could have done more and Ward did well but she could have looked more distressed.

Birthday Surprise:

I think that their group did Excellent work and their cue cards were sufficient but not too many. Salma did a very good job at acting and her expressions were very good. Nasser did a good job but he could have acted better.

Strapped onto the Rails:

I think that Karim did very well and he had huge expressions. Sireen did well at looking distressed but she could have done better expressions. In my opinion they did substantial work and could have improved with bigger actions.

Oliver Suddens Rescue:

I think that the acting was good but the music could be better because it was loud. In all I think they did Adequate work.

How to find your Maiden:

I think that they did Excellent work and that it was really funny. Hyeonho did a really good job at being a damsel and Sam was a really good sidekick

Bob and Cooley try to save the day:

I think that they did Limited work and they could have improved a lot. The Music never changed and it was pretty short.

Melodrama Character Pictures

The Aged Parent:  I chose this to be the Aged Parent because he is old. you can see from his Tuxedo that he is rich and because of the walking stick he is old and frail. i added the glasses to also show that he is old and because of this he has bad eye sight.

The Hero: I made this the hero because the way he is standing is making him look brave and strong, he is also holding a shield which can indicate that he is courageous. The expression on his face shows that he always saves the day and villains have no chance.

The Villain: I made this one the villain because he has a cloak, and he has an evil and sly look on his face. he is also wearing a top hat that shows that he is trying to look rich so that he can manipulate the hero and the Maiden. He also doesn't have a weapon because he makes his henchman do all the dirty work.

Year 8 Drama

MYP: Melodrama

Key Concept: Relationships

Related Concept: Audience Expression Presentation

Global Context: Fairness and Development

Statement of Inquiry: A hero saves the day in Melodrama to ensure that justice and peace will overrule the destroying plans of evildoers.

Inquiry Question: Will the hero always destroy the evil plans of the villain to save the day? Will Melodrama always have a happy ending? Must all stories have a happy ending? Will good always win against evil? How can the world become a better and more peaceful environment for all?

How do Composers Write Music That Makes us Think of CertainCharacteristics?

Different musical instruments can make people feel different kinds of ways. For example the violin is happy and percussion makes the music feel angry or strong. What makes songs sad? Apart from the lyrics, it's because the melody mostly features a musical construct called the minor third, which musicians have used to express sadness since at least the 17th century. The minor third's emotional sway is closely related to the popular idea that, at least for Western music, songs written in a major key are more happy, while those in a minor key are more sad.

- The flute or some other woodwinds sound romantic.
- The violin or viola, as i said before, is happy.
- And percussion make the music sound strong or angry.
- The oboe or cello will sound sad and/or slow paced.

Me, Myself and I Pictures

I put a snapchat logo because that is one of the social media that I use the most.

I put a picture of an Xbox One because it is the console that I have and I use it all the time. I also met some friends of friends ( not strangers ) on the Xbox and we are now friends too!
I put down Netflix because I use Netflix a lot and it shaped me into who I am today because a lot of the shows on Netflix made me want to watch more and so I got knowledge from them.
I put a photo of an iPhone 5S because I've had this phone for more than a year now and it made me more interested in programming and making apps.
I chose a picture of a gaming setup because I enjoy gaming and PC's got me interested in coding and that is what I sometimes do in my spare time.

Finally, I chose the cover of X ,the album from Ed Sheeran, because I love his songs in that album and I listen to them everyday and they made me more interested in more sad pieces of music.

Riccardo's Duck Theme

Reflection:
I think that I did pretty well on the Duck's Theme because the music kind of  fits with the video and it isn't too fast or too slow.  I used collaborative skills because I had to ask Sam or Kiyara to click the record button so that i could record it right. I also used communication because me and Sam had to time clicking the record button right so we had to talk to each other. I am pretty much an expert now at using mix craft because i learned how to use it properly. The Duck's theme was pretty easy to learn. I used organization because i finished it in less than a lesson.

Riccardo's Peter Theme

Reflection:

I think that I did pretty well on Peter's Theme because the music fits with the video but i think it might be a bit too slow.  I used collaborative skills because I had to ask Sam or Kiyara to click the record button so that i could record it right. I also used communication because me and Sam had to time clicking the record button right so we had to talk to each other. I think i am almost an expert at using mix craft because i learned how to use it well. Peter's theme was pretty difficult to learn but in the end i managed to memorize it. I used organization because i finished it before the due date.

Peter and the Wolf - Hunter's Theme

Reflection:

I think that I did pretty well on the Hunter's Theme because it fits with the video and it isn't too fast or too slow but I think, now that I looked back at it, I missed a note ( the third G ) because I only did two. I used collaborative skills because I had to share a computer with Rania and we had to take turns. I also used communication because me and Rania had to time it right so we had to talk to each other. It was pretty hard to use Mix-Craft ( the program made by a
T-Rex in the Jurassic Period ) because everything is confusing. I used organization because I went in my lunch to Finnish my Hinter's Theme so I will have it in time.

Identities Through Music

My Art Reflection

ATL Skills:
I did pretty well at the organization skill. I think that I was well organized and I always had my books and any other equipment in class. I think that I could have done better if I was absent less.

I think that I did well at collaboration in art because when we did the group PowerPoint on cultural masks because I didn't just do it by my self or let my partner do it all, we both worked together so we collaborated well.

I think that I did pretty well on the research skill because I got a lot of good information for my group PowerPoint and a lot of it was used into the PowerPoint itself so I think I did well on research. I think I could have done better by cross checking my research with more websites.

Criteria A, B, C & D Reflection:
In art this year I learned how to use a sharp knife safely to cut cardboard and layer on a mask. From this I have a acquired a useful skill because in life I might need to cut something with a blade and I will know how to do it safely.

In art I made a mask and it was used to demonstrate culture because my mask was a Nepali demon mask that I changed to make it fit my culture and personality. I chose the inspiration of my mask a Nepali demon because I had memories from a game that I played and that mask was in it and I also thought it looked cool.

What could you do to improve your performance in this rotation?
I can improve my organization by posting on my blog more often in school and also at home.

What areas of improvement do you need to focus on?
I need to improve on my reflection skills because reflection isn't really my strong point and I feel I have to improve on it to get higher marks.

How could you improve your learning experience in the next rotation?
I think to improve my learning skills from art to music I have to listen more attentively in class and ask more questions.
